The name "Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do ®" refers to the original Art of Bruce Lee.
"Jun Fan" is indeed Bruce Lee's chinese name.
"Original" must so be intended as the work of someone and to be kept quite distinct from imitations of someone else.
JFJKD is the study of science and philosophy as well as of techniques and strategies synthetized by Bruce Lee during his life.
Confusion about Jeet Kune Do comes from the paradoxical will to refer to Bruce Lee but diverging from his Art.
Jeet Kune Do is not a mix of techniques from different styles, it has it's own techniques, i.e. those techniques Bruce Lee has been improving since he started referring to his art with a new name.
While the name being not that important, the basic principles of the art are essential, with Bruce Lee constantly referring to them during his research.
He believed that a scientific approach to barehanded fight is based on correct positioning, Footwork and the ability to take advantage of human body in the most effective and efficient way. Individual freedom of expression can only be gained through self control, not from the knowledge of many different techniques. Because "knowing is not enough, you must apply".
Once you understand the correct dynamics of a tecnhique and gain mastery using it, it's only the beginning and you need to work hard to actually manage to apply them. The opponent indeed doesn't co-operate, neither remains still nor complies with our actions, but can be able to strike back hit after hit.
To improve in Jeet Kune Do consists in simplifying and getting rid of everything unnecessary, thus perfecting the skill to apply.
Describing Jeet Kune Do as "self defense" or "street fighting" is at least inadequate.
Jeet Kune Do is an Art, as well as Boxing or Fencing, and to get perfect at it may take a whole existence, refining one's combat skills and becoming better as a human being.
